At a very young age portrait artist Lori Pratico realized that people could not be truly understood by what they let you see on the outside. That clothes, makeup, hairstyles and even personalities were often used as distractions in order to disguise one’s true self. Peeling back the layers, and revealing what each of us has in common, instead of what makes us different. is what motivates the self taught artist to paint portraits as her main focus of study. Her latest series “INK”, Women and their Tattoos, is an example of how when you discard judgement, and social opinion, what is revealed is a captivating, beautiful, multifaceted human being. Having no formal training, Lori has gathered her skills from life experiences and experimentation with various materials and mediums. She has made her living by using her creative skills combined with her business sense for over 20 years.
Lori’s work was recently featured in the Glass Gallery’s “Influence of Women in Art”, and was recognized in the April 2009 issue of The Parklander Magazine. Her piece entitled “My Hood” won Best in Show at the 2010 prestigious ArtBravo exhibition. Lori continues to look for innovative ways to attract the art world and general public by having solo exhibitions in more non-traditional spaces, such as Stage84, Kevro’s Art Bar and Life Escape Day Spa.
As a member of ArtServe, The Alliance of Professional Artists, and as a board member of the South Florida Artist Association, Lori actively supports the South Florida art community.
